Simulcast from Microsoft Tech·Ed 2006 in Boston, MA.
Microsoft.com is one of the busiest Web sites in the world and a constant target for hackers. Join this webcast to learn what drives the infrastructure design decisions of this site from the team that architected it and manages it today. Find out how architectural
decisions were key to the adoption of the new, 64-bit platform now in production and had no negative effect on site availability. When security patches are released, Microsoft Update and the Download Center push out more than 80 gigabyte (GB) of data per second.
Find out how the Microsoft.com Operations team utilizes Global Load Balancing and manages egress. Get an inside look at the architecture, replication, and management of Web site configuration and content, and the network topology Microsoft.com uses to create
true 99.9 percent availability.
Presenters: George Holman, Senior Systems Engineer, Microsoft Corporation and Paul Wright, Technology Architect Manager, Microsoft Corporation
George Holman is a senior systems engineer on the Microsoft.com Operations team. He has served as a primary systems engineer for the team’s production Web servers, managed nine other systems engineers, and currently works as the customer connection/technical
evangelist for the team.
Paul Wright leads the Architecture and Security team for Microsoft.com Operations, which drives the design and adoption of high availability architectures, mitigation strategies for denial of service (DoS) attacks, secure development processes, and efficient
operational practices. Paul and his team provide senior-level architectural guidance on global and local load balancing, network, domain, and other infrastructure-related services.
